BE POSITIVE!

BE POSITIVE! When you are negative you are actually physically weaker as an athlete and you’ll be weakening the entire team. This means that you have to learn to quickly forget and forgive your own mistakes as well as the ones of your teammates. Regardless of whatever happens in the game, stay positive!

Rebound Quickly from Your Mistakes
The one factor that separates the best players from everyone else is their ability to quickly let go of their mistakes. When you dwell on your Mistakes you will only make more of them. Soccer is a game where goals are scored. That’s a fact of life! Learn to refocus yourself immediately on the next play! Develop a personal mistake ritual. For example, when you mess up:
1) Immediately switch your focus of attention away from the mistake
2) Slow and deepen your breathing. When you make a mistake the natural reaction is to speed up the breathing and make it shallower. This will only make you more uptight! Take 2-3 slow deep breaths.
3) Change your negative self-talk. Beating yourself up emotionally will not help you get back in the game. Instead, tell yourself things like: “let it go,” “one play at a time,” “you’ll get it back,” “act as if nothing happened” etc.
4) When you are calmer and ready get back in the game, Practice this in practice and it will help you regain your composure once you’re under the pressure of a game.

Winner vs. Loser
The Winner is always part of the answer
The Loser is always part of the problem
The Winner always has a program
The Loser always has an excuse
The Winner says, “Let me do it for you”
The Losers says, “That’s not my job”
The Winner sees an answer for every problem
The Loser sees a problem for every answer
The Winner sees a green near every sand trap
The Loser sees two or three sand traps near every green
The Winner says, “It may be difficult but is it’s possible”
The Loser says, “It may be possible but it’s too difficult”

Focus
If you want to be a winner on the field you have to learn to stay mentally in the here and the now. This means that while the game is going on your mind stays in the present on the play that is going on.
A past focus on mistakes, something that happened to you before the game, or the last time you had to play this team will only get you into trouble. Recognize when your mind is in the past and bring yourself back to the now. Focusing on the outcome of the game, winning or losing, or the “what ifs” will tighten you up and insure that you play poorly. Recognize when your mind is in the past and bring yourself back to the now. The now is the only time zone that you have control over and power in! Also make sure that you stay mentally in the right place, the here. This means that while you are on the field do not focus on what the crowd may be saying to you, what other people may think of your play, etc. Mentally stay in the game, in the here! When you find yourself thinking about these other things, recognize and bring yourself back.

The Winner Inside Each Of Us
There is a winner inside all of us
Winners take chances
Like everyone else, they fear failing but they refuse to let fear control them.
Winners don’t give up.
When life gets rough, they hang in until the going gets better.
Winners are flexible.
They realize there is more than one way and are willing to try others.
Winners know they are not perfect.
They respect their weaknesses while making the most of their strengths.
Winners fall, but they don’t stay down.
They stubbornly refuse to let a fall keep them from climbing.
Winners don’t blame fate on their failures or luck for their   successes.
Winners accept responsibility for their lives.
Winners are positive thinkers who see good in all things.
From the ordinary, they make extraordinary.
Winners believe in the path they have chosen even when it’s hard, even when others can’t see where they are going.
Winners are patient.
They know a goal is only worthy as the effort that’s required to achieve it.
